🌐 How It Works

Minecraft Dungeons II uses a custom skin format inside the ~mods folder. The game's native skins use a 64x64 layout with separate face pieces (eyes and mouth) and support for MRES textures (metallic, rough, glowing, translucent)[reference:5].

The Skin Manager handles the entire process:

  1. Detects game folder — Automatically finds your installation.
  2. Creates folders — Sets up ~mods, skins, and capes if they don't exist.
  3. Converts Java skins — Transforms Java Edition skins (Classic, Slim, HD) to Dungeons II layout.
  4. Generates face pieces — Creates eyes and mouth from the skin's face for in-game animation.
  5. Installs skins — Copies files to the correct location.
  6. Creates backup — Saves a copy before changes.

🚀 Installation

  1. Go to the Releases page.
  2. Download the latest MCD2SkinManager_v1.0.0.zip file.
  3. Extract the archive to any folder on your PC.
  4. Right-click on MCD2SkinManager.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  5. The manager will auto-detect your game. If not, click "Browse" to select your game folder.
  6. Drag & drop your PNG skins or use the built-in Java converter.
  7. Preview in 3D, then click "Install".

⚠️ Important: Run as Administrator to allow the manager to create folders and copy files.

Note: The Skin Manager automatically detects which of these mods are installed and configures itself accordingly.

The manager keeps all your skins organized in a searchable library:

  • Collections — Group related skins into sets.

❓ FAQ

Q: Will this work with the latest Minecraft Dungeons II patch? A: Yes. The manager works with the ~mods folder structure, which is stable. Updates will be released if Mojang changes the format.

Q: Is this safe to use? A: Yes. The manager only copies files to the ~mods folder. It does not modify game executables. A backup is created automatically.

Q: The game doesn't show my skins. What should I do? A: Make sure the ~mods folder is named exactly ~mods (with tilde) inside Dungeons\Content\Paks\. The manager creates it automatically. Also press F5 in-game to reload skins.

Q: Can I use skins from Minecraft Java Edition? A: Yes! The built-in converter transforms Java skins (Classic, Slim, HD) to Dungeons II format automatically.
